The beginnings of the English drama are obscure. During the time of the Norman Conquest a form of religious drama was introduced. Originally drama was merely a part of the Church service. Later as the dramatic element was growing stronger than its religious purpose, the stage was removed from the Churchyard and then to the market place. The drama evolved to Miracle and Mystery play. In France, Miracle used to represent the life of the saints and Mystery used to represent any scene taken from the scripture. Meanwhile in England, there was no distinction between this two.
π Medieval drama
Miracle plays
The term Miracle play was used to represent any story taken from the scripture or the bible and the life of the saints. The plays were before given inside the church began to move to the porch then to the churchyards. But when the plays began interfere the church services and had become too elaborate, the scandalized priest forbade the play in the church. By the thirteenth century, the Miracle play began move outside the church.
Morality plays
The later development of drama was Morality play. it is a dramatization of personified abstraction generally vice against virtue. In these plays, the character were allegorical personified such as death, sin, good and bad angel, seven deadly sins, etc. The purpose of this drama was didactic, to give moral lesson to the audience. The morality plays generally ended with the virtue win against the evil. This play was marked by the introduction of personage called "vice", who was mischievous, comic and humorous character. Vice was the predecessor of the modern clown or jester. The examples of morality plays are "Everyman" and "The Castle of Perseverance".
The Interludes
The introduction of Morality play also introduce so called "interlude". Interlude is the short version of morality play. Generally interludes were given during break of the scene. It was a short stage entertainment in a sense of humor and was considered as the forerunner of comedies. The example of interlude was "The Four P's" by John Heywood which performed around 1497.

Jacobean drama
The reign of James I coincided with what is considered the Jacobean era of drama. During this time period England and Scotland were unified and some of the first English settlements were founded in North America. Although many of Shakespeare's greatest plays were written in this time period, Jacobean literature was influenced mainly by the rise of Ben Jonson, satire, and the revenge plays of John Webster and Thomas Kyd. The other major dramatists of the Jacobean period Jonson, Middleton, Marston, Heywood, Dekker, Chapman, and Beaumont and Fletcher.
Elizabethan drama
Elizabethan drama refers to plays produced under the reign of Elizabeth I and was heavily influenced by the medieval dramatic traditions (mystery, morality plays). This time period includes playwrights such as William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, and comedic playwright Thomas Dekker. The establishment of theatres and acting companies also began to expand and drama became fixed and permanent in the lives of the English audience.
During Elizabeths reign translations of these Greek and Roman plays became widely available and began to have a heavy influence upon English playwrights. Greek and Roman Plays were largely divided into two genres, Comedy and Tragedy. The first full length English Comedy was Ralph Roister Doister - written in 1553 by Nicholas Udall, and The first full length English Tragedy was Gorboduc - written in 1561 by Thomas Norton and Thomas Sackville.
π Restoration drama
The revival of drama in England after the restoration of the monarchy (1660) is known as Restoration Drama. Its main features were the reopening of the theatres after the Puritan Interregnum. The dominant genres of the era were the comedy of manners and the heroic drama of Dryden and others, both of which show a strong French influence. Women as well began to make an appearance in theatre with the advent of the Restoration. Playwrights such as Killigrew and Davenant began casting females for their productions. Some Restoration Playwrights- William Congreve, George Farquhar, William Wycherley,.etc
π Vicorian drama
The 19th century New theatres opened to satisfy a demand for entertainment from the workers who flooded into the major cities as the Industrial Revolution took hold. A new theatrical genre developed: the melodrama, that was an extremely simple and short play with superficial and stereotypical characters and in which good always won over evil. Oscar Wilde is one of the most prominent playwrights of the Victorian era. Other important writers include John Millington Synge, Dion Boucicault.
π Modern drama
Modern drama is defined as that written in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, primarily in Europe and North America. Henrik Ibsen is famously known as the Father of Modern Drama, and it is worth recognizing how literal an assessment that is. It was Henrik Ibsen who popularised realism in Modern Drama. He dealt with the problems of real life in a realistic manner of his play. His example was followed by Robertson Arthur Jones, Galsworthy and G. B. Shaw in their plays. James Bridie, Noel Coward, J.B Priestley, Sean O' Casey, C.K. Munro, Elmer Rice have made experiments in the expressionistic tendency in modern drama.

πΈConstantly remember Allah and try your best to avoid shameful deeds as the reward is nothing but Paradise as mentioned by Allah SWT in the Quran (interpretation of the meaning):
"But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from impure evil desires, and lusts. Verily, Paradise will be his abode."
